I have read this blog, and would like to share thoughts about, what I believe, is a superior alternative to many NAS solutions out there, including Isilon. The concern is not what kinda data is on the table, but HOW these datas are searched and retrieved using SQL.
Fact is the data on these tables may have been handled without multiple useless full table scan to delete entries, but on one single query relying on an index. Wether is it authentification informations or cooking instructions doesn't matter. This table lacks one combined Index, and the SQL code/surrounding PHP code may have been far better to economize Network/MySQL ressources.

I think that talking about qualities of Drupal is exactly of talking about comfort or horse-power of a car that didnt brake when you need it.
Ease-of-use, installation, flexibility, modules, what's the matter if at the end of the day it couldn't deliver your website when visits will raise? Or if you are hacked regularly?

Bad design, bad code result a bad performance and security holes. But do you have better CMS options, that have this flexibility and fonctionnality?

It's probably both that gives you bad performances.
As I report, Drupal 6 consume much more resources than Drupal 5, or put it differently, is largely slower on the same configuration!!! It won't help! Drupal is easy to setup and administer, really flexible, but still lack the ability to scale well while needing too much computing resources.

Greetings, I just read your blog on Drupal 4.7. Have you had a chance to evaluate Drupal 6.2 yet and do you think it's a significant enough improvement to consider for more demanding web applications? I'm building a small personal site in 4.7 right now and even in config mode it's very slow. Was not sure if this was my hosting service or just Drupal.

Not perfect! sur MySQL Engine INSERT speed

Yes it's not perfect, but it's a good improvment on MyISAM basic level of performance.
Remember to ensure to EVER use mysqldump to export sequentially all data if mysql crash, and reimport to rebuild tables and indexes. Anyway this is also necessary when you do DELAY_KEY_WRITE=OFF. (nobody could insure what a crash may have done to INDEX, if it's checkable or fixable!) It was lessons from 3.23 and before, and they seems to be usefull albeit I don't saw mysql crash these last years!!! :-)
